This weekend Brennan Poole and his #15 team will pay homage to two racing legends in NASCAR’s historic Southern 500 in his RED Rooster car. During the 1980’s, the iconic Bud Moore signed young racing talent Ricky Rudd. Known for his hard charging, tough mentality and
scrappiness, Rudd was famously nicknamed “The Rooster.” Poole, nicknamed “The Bull,” echos this spirit.
Ricky’s pluckiness would be showcased in the 1984 campaign when he suffered a horrific crash in NASCAR’s Busch Clash. Rudd flipped multiple times down the front stretch coming to rest in the infield grass. He was left with a concussion, torn rib cartilage and eyes swollen shut so
badly, he would end up taping them open to compete in the Daytona 500. After finding out about Rudd’s injuries after the fact, NASCAR would change their driver health policies to ensure safety for all competitors.
“Ricky is someone I looked up to growing up. His toughness and tenacity is something I wanted to emulate as I progressed throughout my career. The racing business isn’t easy, and I’ve had to scratch and claw to keep going. Ricky is a reminder to fight for what I love to do; race.” –
In addition to paying homage to racing icons, this 1986 scheme will feature sponsor R.E.D. (Remember Everyone Deployed.Today). RED’s mission is to help keep our deployed men and women at the forefront of our collective hearts and minds. The organization’s mantra “Until They All Come Home,” rings true throughout the walls of our race team. The deployed and their families are not nameless, faceless or forgotten. They are our heroes and for them we wear red on Friday’s to show our support. Spartan Mosquito, the sponsor supporting and promoting RED was particularly drawn to this scheme after finding out that Bud Moore himself was decorated DDay Infantryman.
“I can’t wait to pay tribute to Ricky, Bud, and all the men and women serving this country. We have the freedoms we do because of their sacrifices. I couldn’t be more grateful to represent them. We are coming off our best finish of the year at Daytona (Top 15). Our plan is to build off of that success and have a great showing in the Southern 500.”- Brennan Poole
