McLaughlin Restarts Season with Toledo Debut

After a layoff of over four months, Max McLaughlin gets back to business in the No. 1 Mohawk Northeast Toyota Camry on Saturday evening at Toledo Speedway. “Mad Max” started his 2020 season in the ARCA Menards Series East on February 10th at New Smyrna Speedway with a second-place qualifying effort and a 10th-place finish. The bulling in “Glass City” will be the first new venue for McLaughlin this season and is chasing his first asphalt oval victory.

Short Track Streak … While the 20-year old is searching for his first victory on a short track, McLaughlin has consistently been in contention for race wins since beginning his asphalt career last season. Dating back to last season’s double header at South Boston Speedway, McLaughlin has posted a string of six-consecutive top-10 finishes at venues shorter than one mile. He and the Mohawk Northeast team aim to restart their season by continuing that streak and contend for the victory in Toledo.

The Real Heroes … HRE will continue recognize some of The Real Heroes by running names of front line workers on board the No. 1 Toyota Camry as a “thank you” for their service and contributions. Clifford (Cliff) Jacks will have his name over McLaughlin’s driver-side door on Saturday evening, and is being honored as a Star of Life for his determined actions in saving a 12-year-old who had collapsed during P.E. class at a local school. Jacks has been in EMS for 20 years and has been a medic for nearly 15.

Chassis Selection … McLaughlin will pilot chassis No. 010 in his first trip around the ultra-quick Ohio half mile. “Mad Max” most recently finished the 2019 season in this Camry at Dover International Speedway last October with a seventh-place finish. Chassis No. 010’s best outing came at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last July when McLaughlin hustled it to a fourth-place finish.

Tune In …  Round two of McLaughlin’s ARCA Menards Series East schedule will be streamed live on NBC Sports Gold TRACKPass app, beginning shortly before the green flag at 6:00 p.m. ET. Max McLaughlin Quote:On making another first time visit to a new venue:“It’s going to feel great to be back in the Mohawk Northeast Camry. It’s been fun to watch Austin (Hill) and the truck team race the last few weeks, and it’s made me even more excited to get back to the track. I’ve been running as much as possible at Millbridge Speedway near the shop, but I can’t wait to be back in our Camry and work with my guys again. I love the short tracks and Toledo is going to be a fun place. I’ve watched a lot of film from recent races so I’m as prepared as possible. It’s a fast place, and you’re in the corner for most of the lap. Things definitely happen quick and we’ll have to keep our Mohawk Camry turning well all evening, but super excited to get there and get back in the swing of things.”
