On this day in history, NASCAR Hall of Famer Joe Weatherly put on a masterful display of driving talent lapping the field and winning the NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway behind the wheel of Bud Moore’s No. 8 Pontiac. Fellow NASCAR Hall of Famer Ned Jarrett finished second in the event. Weatherly won back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series titles in 1962-’63.
