On this day in history, NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty put his talents on full display in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Columbia Speedway in Cayce, South Carolina. Petty led 169 of the 200 laps and lapped the entire field finishing a full lap ahead of second place Jim Paschal. Petty won 27 of the 48 races in 1967 – a NASCAR record for single season wins to this day.
