Watkins Glen International announced today that it is teaming up with the STOP-DWI New York program to have a plan, don’t drive and get a ride. The partnership will be an effort to increase awareness and promote DWI prevention as a public priority.
“We’re proud to welcome STOP-DWI New York to the WGI family,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. “Working with state-wide organizations in New York State is always special for us, and we’re excited about the opportunity to educate our fans about the importance of choosing a designated driver.”
Additionally, WGI and STOP-DWI NY will develop a season-long promotion, encouraging fans to take the pledge to not drink and drive. Fans who take the pledge to choose a sober driver will be entered for a VIP experience during Go Bowling at The Glen race day, August 16.
“New York State STOP-DWI is proud to partner with Watkins Glen International to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving,” Reginald Crowley, NYS STOP-DWI Foundation Chairman said. “Every year, thousands of people nationwide are killed or injured due to impaired driving. STOP-DWI’s goal is to educate the public about the dangers of driving while impaired. We want everyone to enjoy their time at Watkins Glen, but more importantly we want everyone to get home safely.”
The public information and educational campaign, “Special Traffic Options Program for Driving While Impaired” (STOP-DWI) is the nations’ first and only self-sustaining impaired driving program. New York State is recognized nationally as a leader in traffic safety and in particular, for continual progress in reducing alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes and fatalities. Fans can download the free “Have A Plan” App which is available on Google Play and the Apple Store. More information can be found at www.stopdwi.org.
