Halloween is upon us and Corey LaJoie will pilot a special Scooby-Doo themed Keen Parts Mustang this weekend as teams make the short trek to Martinsville Speedway for the first race of the NASCAR Playoffs Round of 8.
Keen Parts has been known to produce unique paint schemes as part of their sponsorship with Go Fas Racing. From the Darlington throwback schemes to the first Halloween-inspired scheme, they’re always a fan-favorite.
Last fall, the Ohio-based company garnered a multitude of attention with their Snoopy-inspired car just days before Halloween and will do it again this weekend for the First Data 500, their seventh race of the season as a primary sponsor.
The Scooby-Doo cartoon, which recently turned 50 years old, was a favorite of LaJoie’s growing up.
“When Tom and TJ asked what I wanted to do for Martinsville, there was no doubt that I wanted to be driving the Mystery Machine,” expressed LaJoie. “They always have really cool themes behind their Halloween-weekend schemes and I’m excited to be part of this one and thankful for all that they do for our team.”

We had a lot of speed in our primary car in the Spring race until we had a problem and had to go to the backup car. In the Rearview Mirror: Hollywood Casino 400It was a busy weekend in Kansas for driver Corey LaJoie and the No. 32 team. LaJoie started the race weekend by meeting with fans at Kansasland Tire on Thursday before hitting the track with the Kansasland Ford. LaJoie qualified 31st for the 267-lap race and was up to 29th within the first 20 laps as he relayed that he was too loose to run the top. Crew chief Randy Cox detailed to LaJoie he would make a wedge adjustment at the first pit stop, which would come with 20 laps to go in Stage One when the 28-year-old pitted for four tires and fuel, in addition to the wedge adjustment. A caution soon after allowed LaJoie to take the wave around to gain a lap back, just before finishing Stage One in the 29th position.
A quick stop under the stage break prepared LaJoie for the start of Stage Two until he was forced to pit road for an unscheduled stop after making contact with the wall. Fortunately, a caution quickly came out and allowed the North Carolina driver to again take the wave around to gain a lap, placing the team just two laps down. LaJoie would remain quiet on the radio until taking the green-and-white checkered flag for Stage Two in 29th.
The Kansasland Mustang rapidly came to pit road due to a potentially cut right-rear tire. Continuing to battle from the 29th position, LaJoie asked for more lateral grip on the next pit stop. That stop would come on lap 215 when Cox ordered four new tires and fuel. He was shuffled back to 30th and nine laps later radioed that he was “too free to be aggressive.” LaJoie maneuvered around the No. 38 to regain the 29th spot with 25 laps to go at Kansas Speedway. When a caution for the No. 12 slowed the field, the third generation driver made his final stop of the day, setting the driver up for the run to the checkered flag. The field would come to a slow again for Bubba Wallace and Matt Tifft, but fluid on the racetrack forced LaJoie into the outside wall. After coming in for damage repair for the restart, yet another caution would transpire. LaJoie lined up in 30th for the second attempt at a G-W-C but would charge to 29th as the checkered flag waved.
