Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Cardell Cabinets Ford Mustang are set to start Sunday’s Drydene 400 at Dover International Speedway from 13th place.
Menard earned that spot with a qualifying lap at 164.699 miles per hour on Saturday afternoon.
It was the 14th time in the 30 races this season that Menard has qualified 14th or better.
The Menards/Cardell Mustang was significantly faster in qualifying than it had been in the two practice sessions on Friday. In the opening practice, Menard was sixth quickest with a best lap at 160.995 mph. In a Happy Hour session in which the team focused on race set-up, he was 24th on the speed chart with a best lap at 157.253 mph.
Sunday’s 50th annual Drydene 400 is scheduled to start just after 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time with TV coverage on NBCSN.
