PERSEVERANCE KEY IN TY DILLON’S SOLID NIGHT AT RICHMOND

Ty Dillon and Germain Racing rolled into Richmond International Raceway boasting five consecutive top-20 finishes, four of which came at intermediate tracks. The GEICO team looked to continue the roll as the season begins to wind down.

Dillon and the No. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 rolled off of the starting grid from the 30th position when the race got underway under the night sky in Richmond. Packed grandstands cheered loudly as racing action heated up. Dillon broke into the top-25 quickly and held on tight as he hurriedly made his way around the ¾-mile facility with his sights set on the top-20.

Dillon and his GEICO team developed a strategy to help take advantage of any caution flags that would wave during the 300-mile event. The opening stage went caution-free and just

five cautions in total slowed the field during the course of the race.

While the yellow flag did not offer Germain Racing any assistance with their strategy, Dillon was relentless in his pursuit to hold his position and make up ground when possible. The N

 o. 13 GEICO Camaro ZL1 was strong and he was able to gather up some lost real estate as the race wore on. When the checkered flag closed out 400-laps of racing, Dillon managed to hustle his way to a solid 26th place finish, just behind Richard Childress Racing (RCR) teammate, Daniel Hemric, and two Hendrick Motorsports entries.  “Our GEICO Racing team came into this weekend riding a ton of momentum from a stretch of strong finishes. When we unloaded, I felt that we had a good Camaro ZL1 in race trim,” Dillon said. “Unfortunately, going out early in qualifying didn’t help us get the starting position that we wanted and put us a bit behind. Once the green flag fell, our GEICO Chevrolet was tight in the middle. Justin (Alexander) never stopped working on it and by the third stage, our car was handling really well. The cautions didn’t fall exactly like we needed them to make up the ground we lost early on, but our team continues to build and get stronger.”

Team members of Germain Racing will get to sleep at home next week, as they head just down the road to the ‘Roval’ for race number 29 of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Ty Dillon and the No. 13 GEICO Military Camaro ZL1 will hit the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Road Course for the weekend’s opening practice session on Friday, September 27th, at 12:05 PM (ET). Qualifying will follow at 4:40 PM (ET).

The Bank of America ROVAL 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race is on Sunday, September 29th, and it will be televised live on NBC beginning at 2:30 PM (ET). The Performance Racing Network (PRN) will carry the live radio broadcast, along with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
