Ty Gibbs (No. 18 Monster Energy/Terrible Herbst/ORCA Coolers/Advance Auto Parts Toyota) led the way in the lone practice session for this evening’s ARCA Menards Series Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic 200 at Salem Speedway.
Gibbs toured the high-banked 0.555-mile oval at 17.350 seconds/115.159 miles per hour to lead the 21-car field.
April’s General Tire Pole Award winner Carson Hocevar (No. 28 GMPartsNow.com/Scott’s Coins/KBR Development Chevrolet) timed in second fastest at 17.441 seconds/114.558 miles per hour. Corey Heim (No. 22 Speedway Children’s Charities Ford) set an identical time as Hocevar to end the session tied for second. Former Salem winner Christian Eckes (No. 15 JBL Audio Toyota) was fourth fastest at 17.501 seconds/114.164 miles per hour and the runner-up finisher in April, Sam Mayer (No. 21 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet), rounded out the top five at 17.525 seconds/114.009 miles per hour.
Colby Howard (No. 32 The HOPE Project/YURPAL Chevrolet), current ARCA Menards Series championship points leader Michael Self (No. 25 Sinclair Lubricants Toyota), defending race winner Chandler Smith (No. 20 Craftsman Toyota), Bret Holmes (No. 23 Holmes II Excavation Toyota), and Joe Graf, Jr. (No. 77 EAT SLEEP RACE Ford) rounded out the top ten.
The 90-minute session was slowed several times to allow teams to access their transporters, which are parked outside the track. There were two incidents in the session, both involving Scott Melton (No. 69 Melton-McFadden Insurance Agency Ford) who spun once down the backstretch and once down the front stretch. There was no damage in either incident.
General Tire Pole Qualifying is up next for the ARCA Menards Series at 4 pm ET, while the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic 200 is set for a 7:15 pm ET green flag.
