The “Melon Man” may be one to bet on at Vegas

Ross Chastain’s NASCAR Gander Outdoors Trucks Series statistics at Las Vegas Motor Speedway may not lead you to think he should be your pick to win this Friday’s World of Westgate 200 (9 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

He made his first two starts at the track back in 2012 and 2013, finishing 25th and 14th, respectively. In the past 12 months he does have a pair of top-10s, placing seventh last fall and 10th during the first trip to the desert this year.

But he has visited Victory Lane at Vegas in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Chastain outlasted the field through a trip of restarts in the final 20 laps to capture his first NASCAR national series win last fall.

And that has to give him confidence as the Gander Trucks enter the final race of the opening round of the Playoffs – from which only six of eight drivers will continue on in the postseason.
