Tyler Thomas charged from ninth to first to win Sunday’s POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League feature at Lake Ozark Speedway. Tucker Klaasmeyer finished second, while Zach Daum was third to make it a Toyota one-two-three finish in the second race of a Labor Day weekend double-header.
The win is the second of the season for Thomas and the 31st national midget car feature triumph for a Toyota-powered driver in 2019.
In addition to the top-three finishers, RMS Racing teammates Michael Pickens finished fourth, while Saturday night winner Thomas Meseraull placed fifth. In the two races since moving over to Toyota power, the team has registered four top-five finishes.
Earning top-10 finishes on the night were Holley Hollan (sixth), Jesse Colwell (seventh), Daison Pursley (eighth) and Cannon McIntosh (ninth). Maria Cofer finished 11th, followed by Hank Davis in 12th, Jesse Love was 13th, Sam Johnson placed 22nd and Tanner Carrick rounded out the Toyota contingent in 24th.
With a pair of podium showings this weekend, Daum has moved to within 240 points of series leader Colwell with 12 races remaining. Daum has now closed the gap at four consecutive races.
The POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League returns to the track next weekend with a pair of races in Illinois, kicking off at the Jacksonville Speedway on Friday night and then moving on to Canton and the Spoon River Speedway on Saturday.
