Toyota Racing Development’s (TRD) Logan Seavey will suit up and grab the wheel of Venturini Motorsport’s (VMS) No.20 Craftsman Toyota this weekend to defend his 2018 ARCA Menards Series’ Southern Illinois 100 victory at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
Last year’s race winner in just his second series start, Seavey looks to add more hardware when he returns to the dirt Saturday night under the lights on DuQuoin’s Magic Mile.
Seavey, the defending USAC P1 Insurance National Midget Series champion, will be making his fourth career series start and second of the season. He led 34 laps two weeks ago at Springfield but faded to fourth at the finish.
“I’m ready to go again with Venturini Motorsports this weekend at DuQuoin,” said Seavey. “Springfield didn’t quite go as planned just being a little too tight to be as good as we needed to be. But I know DuQuoin races well and fits a dirt racer style a lot better so it makes me look forward to it even more. I know the 20 Craftsman Camry will be just as good as it was last year, we just need to put the whole day together and I think we will be tough.”
A dirt specialist, Seavey has made the most out of his limited opportunities claiming a victory last year, a pole position in his last start at Springfield and three consecutive top-5’s overall. He’s led 69 laps in series competition and boasts a solid 3.0 starting average and a 2.7 finishing average during his brief stay in ARCA.
Seavey will join a pair of formidable teammates racing side-by-side with previous dirt winners Michael Self and Christian Eckes. Both full time VMS drivers won in their first ever dirt starts at Springfield – Eckes 18’ and Self this year’s winner. Self is also ARCA’s current point leader holding a 105-point advantage over Eckes.
VMS enters DuQuoin with 63 all-time ARCA series victories which include seven team wins on dirt. Furthermore, VMS has claimed dirt supremacy the last three dirt races.
The Southern Illinois 100 on the Magic Mile at the DuQuoin State Fair is set for Saturday night August 31. Practice starts at 2:30 pm CT, General Tire Pole Qualifying is slated for 5:30 pm CT, and the race is set for 8 pm CT. The race will be televised live on MAVTV.
