Dover International Speedway will partner with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety on Saturday, Oct. 5 for the “Use Your Melon Drive Sober 200” NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff race as part of the track’s 50th Anniversary celebration, track officials announced today.
The “Use Your Melon Drive Sober 200” NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff race (3 p.m., NBCSN) is the third and final race of the Round of 12 in the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series postseason. Four drivers will see their NASCAR Xfinity Series championship dreams eliminated after 200 miles at the world’s fastest one-mile oval.
“We have a longtime relationship with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety and we are proud to extend our partnership with them as part of our 50th Anniversary celebration,” said Mike Tatoian, Dover International Speedway’s president and CEO. “This agency has important messages to deliver – ones that affect all of our fans and employees – and we’re happy to partner with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety to help them promote impaired driving awareness, deter impaired driving and reduce alcohol- and drug-related motor vehicle crashes.”
The Delaware Office of Highway Safety, also celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, is dedicated to improving the safety of Delaware’s motoring public by focusing on behavioral traffic safety issues such as impaired driving, seat belt use, aggressive driving, child passenger safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, motorcycle safety and teen driving issues.
“To raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety is utilizing the exposure Dover International Speedway and NASCAR provides to reach as many people as possible across the state,” said Christopher Klein, Acting Director, Office of Highway Safety.
The “Use Your Melon Drive Sober 200” NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff race is part of Dover’s planned events and celebrations during the Oct. 4-6 NASCAR tripleheader weekend, which also includes the “General Tire 125” NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season finale on Friday, Oct. 4, and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff race on Sunday, Oct. 6.
In addition to the iconic gold Monster trophies given to the race winners, fans can also enjoy free Harlem Globetrotters performances (Sunday), a free Grand Funk Railroad concert on the Xfinity Stage at Victory Plaza (Sunday), Micro Wrestling Federation matches (Saturday and Sunday), a Winston Cup Mobile Museum display (all weekend) and much more in our FanZone. Additional events will be announced as race weekend approaches.
