Bret Holmes and the No. 23 Techworks Trailer Sales Chevrolet team finished third at Chicagoland Speedway, tying his best-career finish. With lightning and rain blanketing the track, the initial start of the race was delayed by 90 minutes. After starting the 100-lap event from the seventh position, Holmes jumped into the fifth spot and clicked off lap times faster than the leaders. The Munford, Ala., native reported to the Techworks Trailer Sales team of a loose-handling condition developing on his Chevrolet. A caution period on lap 20 allotted time for Holmes to visit pit road for fuel and a chassis adjustment. Armed with handling adjustments, Holmes battled his way back into the top five by the halfway point of the race. A late-race caution slowed the field with less than 30 laps remaining. Crew chief Shane Huffman called Holmes to the attention of the No. 23 Techworks Trailer Sales pit crew for four fresh tires, a splash of fuel and a minor chassis adjustment. Restarting from the sixth position, Holmes maneuvered into the fourth spot on the restart and was scored second a few laps later. With multiple teams vying for the top four positions, Holmes maintained his position and earned a third-place result.

BRET HOLMES QUOTE:“Once again, we had a solid piece at a speedway race. I wish we could have gotten a second-place finish, but we will take a third. I need to work on air and traffic a little better. I’m really proud of this No. 23 Techworks Trailer Sales team and all the support from home that we’re getting this season. After starting further back and gaining as many spots as we did in a short time, it really shows the strength of this team, and the good equipment that we have behind us. We’re getting close to some wins, and that’s what we’re working towards. In the end, every position is going to matter when battling for this championship.”
