With a breather in his NASCAR schedule, Manassas, Va. native Mason Diaz will return to CARS Tour competition and participate in Saturday night’s Radley Cadillac Chevrolet 125 at Dominion (Va.) Raceway.

For his first CARS Late Model Stock Tour of the season, Diaz has aligned with Nelson Motorsports with hopes of earning his first series’ victory in just his fifth career start.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity to compete for Nelson Motorsports this weekend at Dominion Raceway,” said Diaz.

“The Nelson Motorsports guys have been working hard on the car and I’m really expecting to go out there and have a successful test on Friday and challenge for the win on Saturday night.”

Spreading his wings between the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and a limited NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule this year, Diaz has digested plenty of seat time in various series’ with all levels of experience but returning to his short track roots with one of the most touted teams in Late Model competition has Diaz eager to do well.

“There’s no pressure this weekend expect to go out there and win,” added Diaz. “Sure, I have a job to do to go out there and try and bring home the checkered flag, but these Nelson Motorsports are racers who have experienced everything imaginable when it comes to being at the track. For us, we’re just focused on going out there and doing our job and doing it well.”

While expected to return to the K&N Pro Series East tour later this season, Diaz is also hopeful to compete in more CARS Tour events as staying behind the wheel of a Late Model keeps the 19-year-oldfocused and driven.
“I love racing and I’ll climb in anything that has wheels, but Late Model racing is a lot of fun,” Diaz explained. “There isn’t room for much error and the competition is sometimes stiffer than that of K&N or Xfinity – but I think that level of commitment and focus makes me a more determined and better driver. I hope to show that to the Nelson Motorsports team this weekend.”

Diaz’s efforts on Saturday night will be supported by longtime partners The Sign Shop andSolid Rock Carriers.
