Stand-up comedian and actor Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias will pilot the Toyota Camry pace car to kick off the Toyota/Save Mart 350 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, June 23.
Gabriel Iglesias is one of America’s most successful stand-up comedians performing to sold-out concerts around the world. He has the distinct honor of being one of the few to headline and sell-out Madison Square Garden in New York, Staples Center in Los Angeles and Sydney Opera House in Australia. Celebrating over 20 years in stand-up comedy, Iglesias is currently on his world tour, “Beyond The Fluffy.”
Iglesias is the star and Executive Producer of the upcoming multi-cam comedy series for Netflix, Mr. Iglesias. Iglesias plays a good-natured public high school teacher who works at his alma mater. He takes on teaching gifted but misfit kids to not only save them from being “counseled out” by a bully bureaucrat Assistant Principal, but also to help them unlock their full potential. The series will have 10 half-hour episodes and premieres June 21, 2019.
“A lot of my fans ask me what I would be if I wasn’t a stand-up comic,” said Iglesias. “I tell them a history teacher because I love history. So it’s great that in this sitcom, I have the opportunity to live out my alternate reality had I not become Fluffy.”
In addition to the Netflix comedy series, Iglesias will star in two stand-up comedy specials for the network. The first, titled One Show Fits All, debuted early this year, and the second will tape sometime in 2020. Both specials are follow-ups to his highly successful 2016 special I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry.
Iglesias will be the first pace car driver to lead the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series field through Sonoma Raceway’s full, 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course since 1997. The raceway announced late last year that it would return to its traditional road-course configuration, including the popular Carousel turn, for this year’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 as part of its 50thanniversary celebration.
“I can’t get over the fact that I will be driving ON a race track,” said Iglesias.
Iglesias will be recognized during the NASCAR Drivers’ Meeting and the Toyota/Save Mart 350 Pre-Race Show, powered by Friedman’s Home Improvement, prior to hitting the track. Tickets are still available for the Toyota/Save Mart 350, which marks NASCAR’s only visit to Northern California.
