Chandler Smith (No. 20 Craftsman/828 Logistics Toyota) sped to his second consecutive General Tire Pole Award at Madison International Speedway in qualifying for tonight’s Shore Lunch 200. Smith started from the pole last season and led 102 laps en route to his first career series win. Smith turned a fast lap at 17.983 seconds/100.095 miles per hour to earn his third General Tire Pole Award of the season. He also won pole awards at Five Flags and Nashville.
Smith’s Venturini Motorsports teammate Christian Eckes (No. 15 JBL Audio Toyota) was second quick with a lap of 17.995 seconds/100.028 miles per hour. Ty Gibbs (No. 18 Monster Energy/ORCA Coolers/Terrible Herbst/Advance Auto Parts Toyota) was third at 18.025 seconds/99.861 miles per hour, Carson Hocevar (No. 28 Scott’s/GMPartsNow.com/KBR Development Chevrolet) was fourth at 18.047 seconds/99.740 miles per hour and series championship leader Michael Self (No. 25 Sinclair Lubricants Toyota) rounded out the top five at 18.056 seconds/99.690 miles per hour.
Franklin, Wisconsin’s Sam Mayer (No. 21 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet), driving for 2015 ARCA Menards Series championship team GMS Racing, qualified sixth, Corey Heim (No. 22 Speedway Children’s Charities Ford), Hailie Deegan (No. 55 TRD 40th Anniversary Toyota), Bret Holmes (No. 23 Holmes II Excavation/Champion Power Equipment Chevrolet), and Joe Graf, Jr. (No. 77 EAT SLEEP RACE Ford) rounded out the top ten.
