Toyota driver Logan Seavey captured his first USAC Indiana Midget Week crown Sunday after the scheduled finale at Kokomo Speedway was rained out.

The reigning USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget champion won Tuesday’s Indiana Midget Week opener at Montpelier and finished with four top-three podium finishes in five races, including second-place finishes at Lincoln Park and Bloomington, and a third-place Saturday night at Lawrenceburg.

“We had a good car every night,” relayed Seavey. “To be on the podium four out of five races in USAC is really good. It’s as competitive as it’s ever been. There are a lot of great drivers who have won Indiana Midget Week, so It was pretty special just to win a race, let alone the whole thing. We’re starting to hit our stride. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum for the rest of the year and win a second consecutive USAC championship.”

Seavey’s Keith Kunz Motorsports (KKM) teammate Tanner Thorson was this year’s runner-up in his first races since a serious auto accident in late March. Thorson won Thursday night’s race at Lincoln Park Speedway. In addition, he placed second at Montpelier, fifth at Gas City and fourth at Lawrenceburg.

Overall, Toyota-powered drivers captured 11 of the 15 top-three podium finishes through the races.

Seavey’s title is the second in a row and the fifth for a KKM Toyota driver in the last seven years. He joins Spencer Bayston (2018), Rico Abreu (2014, 2015) and Christopher Bell (2013).

While USAC is off until June 29, the Toyota midget car program turns its focus to the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League’s Illinois SPEED Week with five races in five nights beginning Wednesday night at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill.
