Bret Holmes and the No. 23 Holmes ll Excavation / Toledo Mud Hens Chevrolet team finished seventh at Toledo Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Holmes started the scheduled 200-lap affair from the fifth position and reported a tight-handling condition in the opening laps. Holmes settled into rhythm and logged laps as the threat of rain moved in over the speedway. The 22-year-old driver visited pit road under caution on lap 78 for four fresh tires, fuel and a tire pressure adjustment. Holmes restarted seventh on lap 83 and by lap 90, was scored in the fourth position. A quick rain shower brought out the caution flag on lap 112 with Holmes running in the fifth spot. After the shower passed, the Munford, Ala., native took the green flag but slipped to seventh on the restart. A few laps later, heavier rain began to fall. ARCA Menards Series officials were forced to call the race complete on lap 152. Holmes was credited with a seventh-place result.

BRET HOLMES QUOTE:“I felt really good coming into this weekend. After the test we had here a few weeks back, I knew we were going to have a fast Chevrolet. We easily had a top-five car today. I know seventh doesn’t show that. We got rooted up out of the bottom lane and a couple of cars got by us. We just ran out of time to gain track position before the rain came. We have some areas we need to improve on when we get back to the shop this week, but we aren’t giving up. We’re really close to that first win.”
