Seavey Drives Toyota To Victory Lane In POWRi At Lucas Oil Speedway

Toyota Racing

Logan Seavey overtook Keith Kunz Motorsports (KKM) teammate Jesse Colwell on lap 24 and went on to win the 30-lap POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League feature event at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, Saturday night.

The victory is the third for Seavey in five POWRi races this season and it’s the 11th national midget feature victory for a Toyota-powered car in 2019.

For much of the race, it appeared that Colwell would earn his first national midget triumph. Starting from the outside of row one, Colwell battled with another KKM teammate, Tucker Klaasmeyer, for the lead early with the two making contact. Colwell continued on to lead the opening lap, while Klaasmeyer was forced to the pits with a flat tire as the caution waved.

Colwell led Tyler Thomas, Shelby Bosie, Cannon McIntosh and Seavey back to the green and would remain in front as McIntosh began to close on Thomas. The 16-year-old Oklahoma native would eventually pass for the position with a big slider as Seavey also gained a spot.

A caution on lap 12 would bunch the field and give Seavey the opportunity to take over second from McIntosh, with Thomas running fourth and Jason McDougal in fifth.

Colwell would continue to pace the race before a caution on lap 23 gave Seavey the opportunity he was waiting for. The 2017 POWRi champion used a big run off turn two to dive underneath Colwell to take the lead on lap 24.

A lap later, McIntosh used a major slider to overtake Colwell for second. The battle also allowed Seavey to pull out about half a straightaway advantage. It was a lead that he would never relinquish in earning his 14th national midget feature victory with Toyota. McIntosh would finish second, with Colwell in third and Zach Daum, who climbed from the 12th starting position up to fourth, making it an all-Toyota top four.

Joining them in the top-10 were fellow Toyota pilots Holley Hollan in seventh, Tanner Carrick in ninth and 14-year-old Daison Pursley in tenth.

The POWRi Lucas Oil Midget Series heads to Illinois for a pair of races next weekend, competing at Belle-Clair Speedway on Friday before heading to Macon Speedway on Saturday night.
