Thirteen drivers took advantage of Friday’s open test for Saturday’s whosyourdriver.org NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Twin 100s at South Boston Speedway and most all of them had one thing in common: lots of speed.

Thirteen drivers participated in Friday’s optional practice and 10 of them were bunched within three-tenths of a second of each other.

A field of 18 cars is expected for Saturday’s race, which is unique to NASCAR touring series events. There will be two 100-lap points-paying races.

After the first 100-lapper teams will have the opportunity to work on their cars for the second race while South Boston Speedway’s Pure Stock and Hornets divisions are racing. If a car is not drivable after the first race, teams may go to a backup car for the second race.

The starting lineup for the second race will be determined by a driver’s fastest lap in the first race.

Drivers taking advantage of Friday’s open practice included Sam Mayer, winner of the season’s second race and the points leader, Colin Garrett, Chase Cabre, Tanner Gray, Mason Diaz, Justin Carroll, Nick Sanchez, who will be making his first series start Saturday, Drew Dollar and Spencer Davis.

Hailie Deegan, who has a win in the K&N Pro Series West, will arrive at the track Saturday morning along with teammate Derek Kraus, who won the East Series opener this year.

There are two practice sessions scheduled for Saturday along with practices for the Pure Stock and Hornets.

Garrett and Williamsburg’s Carroll, who finished fourth in the opening race a year ago, have by far the most experience of any drivers in the field. Garrett was the track’s Limited Sportsman champion in 2017 and Carroll has run many Late Model races here.

Garrett, who finished third in the first 100-lapper in 2018, is off to a hot start in 2019. He led more than 60 laps in the season-opener and had a solid top-10 finish in his last outing at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Saturday with qualifying scheduled for 5 p.m. An autograph session for drivers from all divisions will be held on the track at 6 p.m. with the first K&N 100-lapper taking the green flag at 7 p.m.

There will be a 30-lap Budweiser Pure Stock race and a 15-lap Budweiser Hornets race.

Tickets are $15 with children 12-and-under admitted free with a paid adult.
