JR Motorsports’ Zane Smith and Kaulig Racing’s Justin Haley will participate in the fourth annual Pocono Raceway College Tour. Smith will visit the University of Scranton on April 2 and Centenary University on April 3. Haley, who participated in last year’s College Tour, will visit Kutztown University on April 9 and East Stroudsburg University on April 10.
The Raceway works directly with Marketing, Business, Sport Management students, and club organizations at each university. These students participate in a multi-part competition with a focus on areas of marketing, data collection through surveys and event planning to plan a “Pocono Raceway Day on Campus.” During the visits to campus, NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers Smith and Haley will interact with students, learn how sport venues promote their events, take part in media interviews and meet with university officials. Students are in charge of planning the day and the events the drivers will participate in on campus. (Note: Media members will be issued advisories with a more defined driver schedule, as well as media availability times, prior to their respective College Tour stops.)
Pocono Raceway will determine the winner of the 2019 Pocono Raceway College Tour based on their performance in the multi-part competition. The winning group of students club will receive a VIP experience at the Pocono Green 250 Recycled by J.P. Mascaro & Sons NXS race on Saturday, June 1, as well as $500 toward their club, university or choice of charitable organization. Past winners include East Stroudsburg University’s Sport Management Club (2018) and Kutztown University’s Sport and Leisure Management Club (2017 and 2016.)
The college students in attendance at these events will also have the opportunity to learn about ID.me, a verification system that allows students exclusive pricing to events at Pocono Raceway and a host of other special offers. Interested students can learn more about the ID.me discount by visiting www.poconoraceway.com/college.
The 2019 schedule at Pocono Raceway includes two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races, a NTT IndyCar Series race and The Great Pocono Raceway Air Show. One NASCAR Xfinity Series, one NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series and two ARCA Menards Series races are also on the calendar for this summer at ‘The Tricky Triangle.’ For tickets, visit www.poconoraceway.com or call 1-800-RACEWAY (1-800-722-3929).
