C. Ryan Shelton named Vice President of Business Operations

Michigan International Speedway recently named C. Ryan Shelton the Vice President of Business Operations. He has been named to the position effective April 16.   

“We are excited to add Ryan to our team at Michigan International Speedway,” MIS President Rick Brenner said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and a dedication to creating memorable experiences for our fans and partners.”

Shelton brings more than 10 years of experience working in the sports and entertainment industry. He comes to Michigan International Speedway after most recently working for the Salem Red Sox, the class A-Advanced Carolina League team for the Boston Red Sox. Shelton served as the president/general manager of the team beginning in 2015 after originally join the team in 2013 as the vice president of ticket sales and service.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at Michigan International Speedway to carry on the tradition of excellence,” Shelton said. “The vision set forth by the team to create those of one-of-a-kind experiences for fans and partners made it an easy decision. I am looking forward to delivering on those exceptional experiences for our guests.”

During his time at Salem, Shelton oversaw increased season ticket revenue and sponsorship for five consecutive seasons. He was named the 2015 Calvin Falwell Award winner as the Carolina League Executive of the year.

Prior to joining the Red Sox, Shelton spent three seasons with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League. He was instrumental in the team enjoying three consecutive seasons of new season ticket revenue growth. He guided the two best group sales seasons in club history.

Shelton started his career in sports with the Florida Marlins. Shelton has also worked with the Augusta Lynx of the East Coast Hockey League and the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL.

Shelton brings a wealth of knowledge in both sales and marketing to Michigan International Speedway. He looks to use his experience in sales, marketing, collaborative development and new product adoption to create a week-long event for fans and partners at MIS.

Michigan International Speedway will continue to be a premier racing facility in 2019 when it hosts a pair of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races. NASCAR’s most entertaining track will host the Monster Energy Series on June 9 and Aug. 11.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 is on June 9. The series will return on Aug. 11 for the Consumers Energy 400.

The XFINITY Series LTi Printing 250 is June 8 while the Gander Outdoors Truck Series Corrigan Oil 200 is scheduled for Aug. 10.
