The Bobby Labonte Foundation, founded by NASCAR champion racecar driver and High Point businessman Bobby Labonte, has earned the Business High Point – Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious Community Organization of the Year award. The recognition came last week at the annual Membership Awards Celebration, on the heels of the foundation’s most successful charity bike ride yet.
The 2018 Bobby Labonte Foundation Charity Bike Ride rolled through High Point, N.C. in September, and raised a record-breaking $50,000 through sponsorships, participant fundraising, registration fees, a VIP bike ride, and a cocktail party. The proceeds funded grants for three local non-profits: High Point LEAP, Millis Regional Health Education Center, and Ready for School, Ready for Life. The organizations align with the Bobby Labonte Foundation’s mission to help build stronger foundations for children and families.
“We are incredibly humbled to be helping families in need right here in our community,” said Labonte. “Business High Point’s award recognizes the tireless efforts of my foundation’s volunteers, ride participants, and sponsors, as well as the overall support of the community. Hats off to Thomas Built Buses, too. They’ve been an amazing sponsor, and we are able to significantly raise our level of impact because of their partnership. I couldn’t be more proud of the growth of our signature event, the Charity Bike Ride, and the money we’ve donated to all of the incredible local organizations we’ve supported over the years.”
Thomas Built Buses, the charity bike ride’s title sponsor in 2018, helped ensure the event was a success. The High Point, N.C.-based company supported the event by providing donations, volunteers, and hosting a kid’s bike build with their employees. More than 80 children in need in the High Point area were surprised with brand-new bikes after the build.
