NASCAR Next alumnus Dylan Lupton (@luptondylan) will open his 2019 racing season by competing in Saturday afternoon’s SRL Southwest Tour Winter Showdown at Kern County (Calif.) Raceway Park.
Lupton, a native of Wilton, Calif. will drive the No. 10 Fatal Clothing Chevrolet for Mark Perry Racing (MPR). Perry, a longtime veteran in Late Models will call the shots for Lupton during the Feb. 2 race.
Fatal Clothing is a Southern California garage-built company that started in 2004. Since then, Fatal represents and supports the artistic lifestyle.
To prepare for the series’ opener, Lupton has been actively testing his Van Doorn-built Late Model including an aggressive six-hour test at the state-of-the-art half-mile facility on Wed., Jan. 30.The results of Wednesday’s session and the third quickest lap during a three-hour session on Thursday evening has the 25-year-old upbeat for his return to Super Late Model competition.
“I’m looking forward to Saturday afternoon,” said Lupton. “Mark and the guys have done a great job preparing our No. 10 Fatal Clothing Chevrolet.
“We’ll continue to work hard and aggressive on our setup during practice and qualifying on Friday and hopes that pays off with a good starting spot for the race.”
The 300-lap event on Saturday is bound to provide excitement and drama for the California-fans and Lupton, a former winner at Kern County in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West competition says he hopes to find himself in the middle of the action.
“I really feel based on our lap times, we’ll have a car capable of contending for the win,” explained Lupton. “This is a brand-new car for us – but it has a lot of speed and maneuverability.
“It’s a long race on Saturday, but we know what to do. Kern County has traditionally been a good track for me. I hope that continues and I can bring home a good finish for the guys on this team and for my sponsor Fatal Clothing.
“I think honestly if we can play our cards right – we have something to contend for the win.”
Lupton still plans to compete in one of NASCAR’s three national series in 2019 and says an announcement is forthcoming.
“We’re still finalizing my plans in NASCAR this year,” sounded Lupton. “We have a couple options on the table and look forward to letting everyone know what I’m doing real soon.”
Lupton has 35 career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts to go along with four starts in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and two in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series.
A two-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series West winner, Lupton graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from UNC Charlotte.
