The O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags’ 2019 season will see the return of the really fast trucks, as well as an opportunity to see more competition in the Pro Division. After several discussions with competitors and fans of the series, officials made changes that should equate to making the high-octane action more thrilling than ever.
“Our goal is to make each season of Friday Night Drags more fun and exciting than the last,” said Events Director Kyle Nelson. “Based on feedback we’ve received from our fans and racers, we’ve made some changes that we believe will do just that for our 13th year.”
The 2019 Friday Night Drags rules released by Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday feature tweaks that will benefit competitors and fans alike, such as the return of the Truck Advanced class, which will pit modified gas and diesel powered trucks against each other in wide open, pedal to the metal races down the 1/8-mile pit lane drag strip.
Friday nights will also feature more tuning time for competitors with the infield pit area opening at 5:30 p.m., 30 minutes earlier than previous years. The extra half-hour will give racers more time to prepare their rides for faster and more fierce competition for fans.
Finally, Friday Night Drags’ Pro division opens up a bit for the 2019 season. The restricted tire size for Pro Division entries with big block power plants has been deleted from the rules and should open up the competition in this naturally aspirated engines only class. Cars with big blocks or small blocks can run any tire they desire. The rule change will give all cars more options when it comes to making the rubber hit the road.
“There are some cars sitting in garages with drivers and teams that want to compete at our popular drag racing series,” added Nelson. “This change to the Pro Division will open the door for those teams to join us on Friday nights.”
