Special Decklid Pays Tribute to Veterans and Video on No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Race Car in Phoenix

Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion team will carry a special Veteran’s Day mosaic this weekend at the Can-Am 500 at ISM Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona.  The special design will not only to commemorate Veteran’s Day falling on the day of Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, but to promote a special video that Shell, Team Penske and the Paralyzed Veterans of America put together around a surprise-filled weekend one veteran received in August.

Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves and 2016 Verizon IndyCar Champion Simon Pagenaud helped with the unique race experience at the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway on August 18th and 19th of this year.  Not only did they receive a unique race weekend with the team, but they helped to say a big thank you to this veteran and his wife for his service.

Nelson Samsel, an Air Force veteran who is confined to a wheel chair and his wife Marge, were guests at the race.   They received a big surprise at the end of the weekend when they found out they were receiving enough money to buy a new wheel chair-accessible van and a year’s supply of Shell fuel!   The video showcases their experience at the race weekend as well as the vehicle gift four weeks later in Colorado.
