While at ISM Raceway (formerly Phoenix Raceway), Sheldon Creed announced that he will join GMS Racing, full-time next season. Creed will continue his climb through the NASCAR ranks, competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors during the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series (NGOTS) season.
Creed already has two truck series starts this year under the GMS Racing banner, making his series debuts at both Martinsville Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway. The El Cajon, Calif. native is scheduled to race in two more events this season, including this weekend’s race at ISM Raceway, and in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, both tracks that he has never raced at before.
“I am extremely pumped about the opportunity to continue my asphalt career and transition into being full-time in the Truck Series,” said Creed. “My goal in whatever I race is to be able to go out and compete for wins every week, and hopefully be in a position to contend for a championship at the end. I really think I have that opportunity with GMS Racing. We were able to get a jump start on next season by running these final four races this year, and I think that will really be to my benefit when we kick off the 2019 season.”
Currently, GMS Racing is having its best season as an organization. Collecting a season-high 10 wins in the Trucks Series with three different drivers, GMS Racing, for the first time, has two drivers already locked into the NASCAR Playoffs Final Four who will fight for a championship next weekend in Miami. The addition of Creed to the 2019 NGOTS lineup should continue to add to the legacy that GMS Racing is hoping to build in NASCAR
“We are really excited to add Creed full-time to our 2019 Truck Series line-up,” said Mike Beam, President of GMS Racing. “He is a talented driver that has the potential to have an impressive career in NASCAR. I know that the people at GMS Racing and GMS Fabrication will supply him with solid Chevrolets week in and week out.”
Additional information on truck number and sponsor will be announced at a later date.
