Obaika Racing announced today that David Starr will pilot the No. 97 Toyota Camry in Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
A veteran driver in racing, Starr has made over 400 starts across NASCAR’s top three series with four wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. This will be Starr’s fifth time entering a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, home track to the Houston native.
“I’m excited to be racing at Texas Motor Speedway in the No. 97 Toyota,” said Starr. “This is a very special opportunity for me because it’s my home track. I’m thankful to Victor (Obaika, team owner) for giving me this chance.”

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Texas Motor Speedway is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. CT (2:00 a.m. ET) followed by qualifying at 6:00 p.m. CT (7:00 p.m. ET) on Friday. There will be two more practice sessions on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. CT (12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. ET). The AAA Texas 500 will get the green flag at 2:00 p.m. CT (3:00 p.m. ET) Sunday on NBCSN.
