DRIVEN World Short Track Championship Kicks Off Two Weeks of Dirt-Flying Action

Beginning with Thursday night’s opening slate of excitement, the nation’s best grassroots dirt racers converge on The Dirt Track at Charlotte in the DRIVEN Racing Oil World Short Track Championship, a three-day spectacle of short-track action on Charlotte’s high-speed four-tenths-mile dirt oval.

Nine divisions of short-trackers (UMP Modifieds, Pro Late Models, NE Sportsman, NE Pro Stock, Crate Sportsman, 602 Late Models, Crate Modifieds, Mini-Stock and FWD/Hornets) take on all comers as they chase a purse exceeding $120,000.

A stellar cast of Carolinas-based drivers will compete this weekend, including Charlotte Motor Speedway Vice President of Corporate Sales Matt Long.

“You’re on a bigger platform (than normal for this race),” said Cla Knight, an accomplished dirt late model racer from North Augusta, South Carolina. “This is a good place to come and make a name for yourself. If you can run well, you’re going to get a lot of fans and exposure.”

Gates open at 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The thrilling event comes just one week before the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car and Late Model series join Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds in the Nov. 1-3 World of Outlaws World Finals presented by Can-Am – the ultimate title-deciding showdown among dirt racing’s greatest stars and fastest cars.
