Seavey Goes Wire-To-Wire To Win Belle-Clair POWRi

Logan Seavey led all 30 laps as Toyotas swept the podium at the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League’s feature at the Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., Saturday night. Zach Daum finished second and Jerry Coons Jr. rounded out the podium sweep in third.

Seavey has registered eight national midget feature wins this season, while Toyota-powered entries have won 35 national events in 2018.

After winning their heat races, Coons and Seavey started the A Main from the front row. After a first-lap caution forced a full re-start, Seavey quickly moved into the lead with Coons second, Holly Shelton in third, Zeb Wise fourth and Daum running fifth.

Shelton moved past Coons to take over the second spot on lap two, while Daum overtook Wise for fourth. The top five then remained intact until Daum and Coons began a battle for third, trading the position for two laps.

Daum would continue his charge towards the front on lap 11, overtaking Coons and then Shelton for the second position, with Coons moving past Shelton as well for the third position.

As the four Toyotas were locked in their positions at the top, it was Seavey’s Keith Kunz Motorsports teammate Ryan Robinson who was making the charge behind them. Starting tenth, Robinson would work his way through the field, eventually moving past Jake Neuman on lap 29 for fifth.

As they came to the checkered flag, it was Seavey, followed by Daum, Coons, Shelton and Robinson as Toyota-powered drivers captured the top-five finishing positions. In addition, Tanner Carrick finished eighth and Cannon McIntosh was ninth to give Toyota seven of the top-10.

Despite an early exit after making contact with the inside wall on the opening lap, Tucker Klaasmeyer maintains a 410-point lead over Robinson with just three points-paying races remaining.

The POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League is back in action next weekend with the make-up of Friday’s postponed race at Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway on Friday, with the regularly scheduled event at the Southern Illinois Raceway in Marion, Ill., on Saturday.
