Bayne Finishes 27th at Sonoma

After qualifying 13th, his best starting position at Sonoma Raceway, Trevor Bayne crossed the line 27th in his AdvoCare Rehydrate Ford Fusion Sunday afternoon.

The 2011 Daytona 500 Champion just missed Saturday’s final round in qualifying, turning the 13th-best lap time in the field, which marks his best career start on a road course, and 12 spots better than his previous career high at Sonoma.

In Sunday’s 110-lap event, Bayne found himself 15th at the end of stage one after a set of cars short-pitted the 25-lap segment. His first pit stop under the stage break gained the team five spots after he ran 27th before any cars pitted, and he restarted 22nd at lap 29.

The Knoxville, Tennessee, native continued reporting he needed more forward drive in the No. 6 throughout stage two before pitting again at lap 46. Under the stop, the team went to work on the right front where Bayne sustained minor damage, and was unable to get left sides put on.

Due to the mishap, Bayne would pit again under the stage break, this time getting left side tires only. After the stops cycled, he would restart 34th at lap 53 and the race never saw a break from there, going green for the remainder of the race.

Bayne was able to get back up to 27th before the final pit stop, and ended the day there in his Ford Fusion.

Bayne returns to the track Sunday, July 1 at Chicagoland Speedway. Race coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and MRN.
