The afternoon heat was hot, the racing is sure to be hot, here is a recap of the evenings racing and how it all went down.
Big Wheel Race: In promotion of learning about racing, making new friends and just simply having fun. Big Wheel Racing made its debut featuring nine participates in a three lap race and when the green flag waved, the wheels were spinning. Lined up side by side to start the race, the bumping and banging ensued. While some navigated the first cone, some in the excitement decided to keep going but emerging with the lead was Landon Reed. Cutting the cones close and narrowing the distance to the checker flag, Landon Reed went wire to wire to win the first ever Big Wheel race at Larry King Laws Langley Speedway. Congratulations to all the racers for participating as the next Big Wheel race is scheduled for August 18th.
Cycle City Corp Bandoleros 15 Laps: Autumn Weaver began Bandoleros race action by taking the pole in the afternoon qualifying. Her lap at 21.235 seconds bested the effort of Layton Harrison but bettered the rest of the grid to start shotgun in row one. Wyatt Philyaw, Logan Clark and Landon Rapp were the top five in Bandoleros qualifying. Green flag waved and the front row decided to beat and bang before the lap one leader could be decided. Autumn Weaver eventually cleared Harrison’s charge for the lead but soon after, Harrison lost out to Wyatt Philyaw and Ayden Millette who were both on the move. Lap for lap did Philyaw follow the race leaders every move. But the race leader Autumn Weaver blocked every advance and would go on to win in Bandoleros race action. Weaver from Victory Lane, “I’d like to thank my dad and everyone that helps us. Danny, my grandpa, I dedicate this win To Bryce Balluzzo. She’s battling cancer right now, it’s sucks but she’s gonna kick some butt”.

Taylor Waste Services Late Model Twin 75’s: Danny Edwards Jr picked up the Late Model race pole for the first time this season sporting a 15.670 lap knocking off brother, Greg Edwards by just one thousandth of a second. Starting third through fifth were Tyler Hughes, Connor Hall and Brenden Queen. Green was given to the field as Danny Edwards Jr would secure the point by the first lap of the race. Outside row one starter Greg Edwards was slow to get going who soon would regroup and settle in eighth. But back up front, early movers Brenden Queen and Nick Smith made it known that they were ready to go after the race leader. Laps later, Queen continued his charge by getting by Tyler Hughes for second with sights then set on the race leader Danny Edwards Jr. Around the halfway, Danny Edwards Jr continued to show the way by showing off a seven car length race lead over Brenden Queen. Queen was not cutting into the leaders lead but wasn’t letting the leader get away either. Last week’s race winner Mark Wertz made it into the top five just past the halfway but suddenly the two spot was shaping up for a change. Connor Hall, after a brief battle settled the matter with Queen and easily picked up the two spot. Needing then a caution did Hall but the caution never came, Danny Edwards Jr would go on to win the first Late Model feature. Danny Edwards Jr from Victory Lane, “I tell ya what, the guys on this race team have been working awfully hard”, expressed the race winner. “Putting a lot of time in the shop trying to figure things out after the big wreck we had at the Hamlin event. That was a good run for us, ironic to win on this Father’s Day weekend, this is the first time I’ve won that my father wasn’t here with me. Been a bit of a dry spell, hopefully will get some more”.
In the second Late Model feature per NASCAR rules, race winner Danny Edwards Jr would start eighth courtesy of the eight car invert. Nick Smith would get the point starting position with Greg Edwards starting on the outside. Green flag waved and the early race leader was shown as Greg Edwards. Tyler Hughes gave the thrills battling for the race lead early who later gave way to the charging ride of Mark Wertz. Wertz soon found himself at the bumper of the race leader who then became the new race leader. Still early in the event, Justin Carroll was coming through the grid in third eyeballing Greg Edwards in second. While that battle was shaping up, race leader Mark Wertz was getting away showing well over a half a straightaway length lead as the halfway loomed near. After the race experienced it first caution, Wertz would win the restart with Justin Carroll in tow. Greg Edwards, Connor Hall and Thomas Marks were the top five headed into the latter portions of the feature. Late in the race got interesting when lap by lap, Justin Carroll started to eat away at Wertz’s lead. Carroll finally collapsed the leaders lead and with a tap to the rear of Wertz, Justin Carroll became the new race leader. From there, Justin Carroll would go on to win his first ever Late Model win. Justin Carroll from Victory Lane, “This is unreal man”, said an emotional race winner. “I’ve never won a race before, this is crazy, Father’s Day. I’d like to thank my dad, my crew, this is unreal man. I just did the same thing every lap, my crew chief has been preaching to me all year to save my stuff. Id saved it, we’ve been close every week here, close in the K&N car, man this is unreal.

Showing muscle and making his way to the front was Rodney Boyd who soon after made quick work of Wilson to take second. At the halfway, Paul Lubno continued to lead when the race experienced its first caution and bunching back up the field. On back it was Spencer Saunders, Devon Courtney and Emily Day as the five best in the Legends qualifying. Green flag waved in the air and the battle for the lead soon began. Spencer Saunders from the three spot made quick work of Daniel Sylvestri for second even getting to the rear bumper of the leader before having to settle back in third. On the restart, Tommy Jackson Jr continued to lead as the halfway was shown to the grid. Sylvestri also continued his charge in second but could not close in in the race leader. Laps later, Jackson’s lead maintained and from there, Tommy Jackson Jr would pick up his fourth race win of the season in Legends race action. His lap at 16.415 seconds bested Bubba Johnston lap but worthy of a share of the front row. Andrew Fortin, Jon Largena and Rick Gdovic were the Modified divisions five quickest in qualifying. Green flag waved high in the air and noticeably, the pole sitter was found starting in the rear. Bubba Johnston with a thank you and a wave assumed the race lead and secured it by lap one. After a brief caution, Johnston won the restart with DJ Valente from the eighth starting position showing second in the early goings of the feature. Not long after did Shawn Balluzzo make his way into the top five and seemingly poised for a run at the leader. Laps later, Balluzzo would make his way to the front, passing Matt Carter for second who then turned his sights in running down race leader Bubba Johnston. Soon after, the battle for the race lead ensued and all Johnston could do was let Balluzzo go to take the race lead. After a series of cautions and completion of the halfway, Shawn Balluzzo continued as the leader but now joining back in the fray would be Matt Carter getting by Bubba Johnston for second. Latter stages of the feature saw Andrew Fortin muscling his way to the two spot but back up front, Shawn Balluzzo would go on to win seven in a row in the Modified race division. Shawn Balluzzo in Victory Lane, “The guys have done a great job on the car”, said the race winner. “We haven’t had to do a whole lot to it, fortunately, I haven’t had much time to do anything on it. Jacob Carr would start second in the eleven truck field followed by Elysia Potter, Keith Wheeler and Ryan Huff as the five best qualifiers. Green flag started the race and on point out of turn two would be the pole sitter Mullins. Jacob Carr survived the slow start courtesy of a bump by Keith Wheeler to occupy the two and three spots in the early laps of the race. Several laps in the feature saw the race leader Mullins begin to pull away as did Carr running second. Halfway was much as the same though Jacob Carr did knock off a few car lengths as lap traffic came into play.
