Mother Nature had the last laugh last week. Shortly after qualifying started, persistent rain showers forced officials to make the call to postpone Whelen Night at the Races.
Officials made an attempt to dry the track but were fighting a losing battle.
Friday’s race will feature races in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified 4 division. Pure 4, Mod Street, and the Pure Street class are also on the schedule. Twin LMSC races are one the schedule of events as well as the “Little Racers Power-wheel Race,” highlight the schedule of events for Friday.
“We really wanted to race last Friday,” said Karen Tunnell, Kingsport Speedway general manager. “but the rain was not letting up and the radar was not looking much better.”
Whelen Night at the Races is now scheduled for Friday, June 8. Grandstands will open at 5 p.m. and racing will begin at 8 p.m.
The Kingsport Speedway Little Racers Club will be located at the Speedway office on A-Side with activities and sign-up sheets for the power-wheels race.
Participants must register before 7:30 p.m. and are limited to those 8 years and younger. Power-wheels will not be provided.
Adult admission is $10 and children 12-and-under are admitted free. Tier parking along Turns 3 and 4 is available for $10 per vehicle plus admission.
Ticket stubs from last week are still valid for the June 8 event.
