Driver safety is a top priority at Martinsville Speedway, not just for drivers racing the cars, but for fans travelling to and from the Speedway as well.
As a way to promote driver safety, DRIVE SMART Virginia and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Office’s “Who’s Your Driver” campaign will once again present the STP 500 race weekend, Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell announced today. For the second year in a row, the weekend will be called the STP 500 Race Weekend presented by whosyourdriver.org.
“Ensuring our fans have a fun, positive and, most importantly, safe experience at Martinsville Speedway is our top priority and that starts when they leave their house and doesn’t end until they arrive back home,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said. “Our partnership with DRIVE SMART Virginia on the “Who’s Your Driver” campaign helps ensure just that.”
The Who’s Your Driver campaign promotes safe and sober driving and encourages drivers to take their role as a driver seriously by buckling up, never driving under the influence and doing everything they can to keep themselves and others safe on the roads.
“The races should be fun and exciting. Your ride home should be uneventful,” said Richard D. Holcomb, DMV Commissioner and the Governor’s Highway Safety Representative. “That’s why ‘Who’s Your Driver’ is so important in our goal to save lives. It’s a reminder that your favorite driver is a sober driver, and encourages everyone to buckle up and make plan for a safe ride home before the celebration starts.”
Every driver who commits to taking the Who’s Your Driver pledge between now and February 23, will be entered for a drawing for a VIP Experience for the March 25 STP 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway.
“We are so excited to bring Who’s Your Driver back to Martinsville Speedway for the second year in a row,” said Janet Brooking, Executive Director of DRIVE SMART Virginia. “This program allowed us to speak with race fans about the importance of safe driving and we are looking forward to continuing this conversation with fans again this year and reminding people that sober driving is always the only option.”
