There will be a lot of eyes on the Can-Am / Kappa team this weekend at Phoenix Raceway for the second-to-last race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Not only is it the last race for NASCAR playoff contenders to lock their way into Homestead for the championship, but it’s a very meaningful race for Can-Am as they are the race entitlement sponsor of the Can-Am 500 as well as the primary sponsor of the No.32 Can-Am / Kappa Ford and driver Matt DiBenedetto. There will be hundreds of Can-Am guests in the stands and pit area cheering on the Go Fas Racing team this weekend.
In his first year of driving for Go Fas, DiBenedetto has quickly gotten acclimated to not only the team, but also the sponsors that surround them. Can-Am was a very natural fit for the 26-year-old. He grew up riding side-by-side and off-road vehicles, where he began to find his love for motorsports. In his free time during the season he rides his Can-Am Maverick X3 with his wife Taylor, and they have several trips planned over the offseason to go riding together. DiBenedetto and his X3 were recently featured on DirtTrax television on the Outdoor Channel, which can also be viewed anytime on YouTube at the DirtTrax channel.
Last Week for the No.32 Team:
Can-Am and Kappa were also the primary sponsor of the No.32 team last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. Temperatures and weather condition varied drastically over the course of the weekend, causing trouble for crew-chiefs as they aimed to find a balance on their race cars for the 500 mile race on Sunday. DiBenedetto qualified 28th and fell back a few spots on the initial start, but crew chief Gene Nead and DiBenedetto quickly found a balance that brought the Can-Am / Kappa race-car a lot of speed on long green flag runs. Good pit strategy kept the No.32 team within a lap of the leaders for much of the race and DiBenedetto stayed out of trouble, bringing the No.32 Can-Am / Kappa Ford home in the 25th position.
DiBenedetto on Phoenix Raceway:
“Whenever people ask me what my favorite track is, Phoenix is always in my top-3. It brings me back to my short-track days a lot. Gene always gives me a really fast racecar and we always seem to run pretty good there. It’s obviously a huge weekend for our team with Can-Am being the race entitlement sponsors and we know a lot of eyes will be on us this weekend. With that, we want to show them how far we’ve come as a program this year. I’m so proud of what we’ve done this year and we still have a lot to battle for. We want to show the Can-Am guests and VIP’s how much we’ve grown and we still want to battle the No.34 team in the points. We gained on them a little bit last weekend and still have two weekends to catch and pass them in the points race.”
